169 REDEFINE: Learn about 2024 construction March 11, Elk River City Hall
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Elk River community is invited to attend and visit with the Highway 169 Redefine project team to learn about 2024 construction plans and impacts at a public open house Monday, March 11, announces the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
The event will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Elk River City Hall, 13065 Orono Parkway, Elk River.
Hosted by the City of Elk River, the event is drop-in style to better fit individual schedules. Guests may arrive at any time to learn, ask questions and then leave at their convenience.
In 2024, crews will construct the fourth and final interchange on Highway 169 at Main Street. Construction includes freeway lanes, adjacent city roads and sidewalk connections, utilities and underground infrastructure.
Overall, Highway 169 will be reduced to one lane in both directions between Highway 10 and School Street. By late March, access will close to and from Highway 169 at Main Street. Temporary access will be available; however, expect changes.
In 2022, crews improved access at the Highway 10/101/169 interchange, reconstructed the northbound Highway 101/169 bridge over Highway 10 and constructed an interchange at Highway 169 and 197th Avenue. In 2023, two new Highway 169 interchanges were constructed at Jackson/193rd Avenue and School Street.
When the freeway opens in fall 2024, the project will improve traffic flow, increase capacity and reduce bottle necks, and improve motorist and pedestrian safety along three miles of Highway 169 in Elk River.
In 2025, crews will return to complete any final tasks—permanent road markings, landscaping, etc.
